MALE MENOPAUSE: THE SURVIVAL COURSE: THE PHYSICAL FOUNDATION DRESSING SUCCESSFULLY: THE TEN COMMANDMENTS 5 (PART 2)
Be colourful
For most formal occasions — and interviews — nothing beats a white shirt and a subtly colourful silk tie, and most men can never go far wrong wearing a blue shirt either. But if this is too routine, look into the selections of shirts that are patterned and select those that have a clean-looking background. Avoid creams, beige, lilac and dove grey as they do nothing for the appearance and if they don’t make the face look drawn, haggard, ill or tired, make the man look as if he is trying too hard to keep up with fashion — and failing.
If you are unsure about whether a shirt colour suits you take it to a mirror, hold it up to your face. You would try on a jacket, a sweater and even a swimsuit so why not hold a shirt up to your face in front of a mirror? Judge for yourself.
As for sweaters, look for those that are maroon, dark green, navy, rust and all rich shades of blue, in plains or patterns, so that they can be worn stylishly with flannels or coloured cords. If you are partial to the brighter colours wear them as polo shirts, sports shirts or ties.
The final effect of this rich colouring highlighted by white or a limited amount of bright colours may seem unadventurous or, initially, traditional. But the colours are effective and make for simple elegance which, after forty, is what most of us need unless we are headed for the beach — which is another story.
Rich colours work; drab colours do not.

Health and Check-Ups (GENITAL WARTS; TRIHOMONIASIS)
Genital Warts: These are single warts or clusters that suddenly appear around genital or anal areas. They are highly contagious and spread during the active moments of sexual intercourse because of a virus that enters the skin. It remains dormant for up to three months. When it becomes active the warts form. On the penis the warts can appear either on the foreskin or on the skin
edge beneath the glans head of a circumcised penis. They itch. Treatment is by ointment or cauterization.
Trichomoniasis: This is an infection of the vagina that causes discharge, itch and smell. A man not wearing a condom during sex may have his penis infected too. Treatment is a short course of tablets.

MALE MENOPAUSE: HOW TO SURVIVE – BE REALISTIC 3
In making your alternative plans know what it is that you can add to your life to make it acceptable. If you have an interest in foreign languages or travel, or in amateur theatre, start by taking lessons or joining a club. Make your spare time more lively and stimulating and through this interest meet new people, widen your circle of friends and at the same time develop your own personal ability and creativity.
Sort out your ambitions. If at twenty you wanted to be a famous author there is no valid reason why now, about forty, you should not still strive for the same goals. But at forty it may be far too late to cling to ambitions that rely on youth or long periods of study and training. At forty it is too late to become a brain surgeon, fighter pilot or famous footballer — but then few make it at twenty-five either.
Whatever you decide and ultimately it is you alone who makes the decision, consider that you may also have a number of people dependent on you — wife, family, children and colleagues — and that your decision may have a serious effect on them. Let them have some say in your future plans, listen to their thoughts and comments.
And expect them to be critical. No matter how realistic you are in your judgement and conclusions, in nine out of ten instances you can bet others will view your life as excellent and see no reason for any change, however minor it is. Few will approve or understand your motives.

MISSING OUT OR FEELING CHEATED: FIRST, THE BAD NEWS HEAD (BALDNESS)
However if after a wash or shave the skin feels taut a moisturizer will ease and soften the surface of the skin. And make it look better and healthier. A suntan will add aesthetic appeal.
During the thirties and forties hair thins out so if there is a baldness pattern running in the family it will make itself evident. The hairline will recede at the temples, the crown might thin or turn to a bare patch. MHB, that is Male Hereditary Baldness, governs just how good a head of hair you have. Each of us inherits a pattern through the side of the family that is genetically dominant — in the way we might inherit the family nose, colouring or body shape. What you get is a matter of luck and nothing can be done to change your inheritance.
As yet there is no proven miracle cure for baldness, certainly not one that can be medically substantiated. Massage and intensive courses of vitamins can make for a healthy scalp and improve the condition of the hair that remains but it cannot make hair grow again once the roots are dead and growth has stopped. Transplanting and the surgical tightening of the crown have limited success.

HOW TO RECOGNIZE IT IN YOURSELF — AND OTHERS – PSYCHOLOGY
One London psychiatrist believes the issue of survival through change depends exclusively on a sense of personal identity.
‘If a man knows who he is and is secure in his sense of identity he can affect his changes successfully and gradually re-establish himself. If his identity is only hazily sketched then the moment he steps out of his environment he is likely to sink. He will have to swim hard and long before he survives with any happiness or contentment.’
Failure
‘The worst part of the male-menopause is the realization that your ambitions are hopeless. Your life is no longer on the fast lane on the highway. You are no longer twenty-five. Pulling over to the slow lane makes you feel a failure.’
Survivor, New York, forty-two.
The most damaging emotion in the crisis is sense of failure. Not that in tangible terms there has been or is about to be failure, but gnawing self-doubts start taking on major proportions and magnifying themselves beyond reason. A typical man facing up to M-M tries to conform to what society dictates and evaluates as its values and ideals. But when, as they do, his values change and his priorities are not those laid down by society, then he begins to suspect he is a failure. He cannot live up to what is expected of him. Even our archetypal successful man with flourishing business, comfortable homelife and respectable financial security can look around him and from his safe platform question his life, his very existence.
