MALE MENOPAUSE: HOW TO SURVIVE – BE REALISTIC 3
In making your alternative plans know what it is that you can add to your life to make it acceptable. If you have an interest in foreign languages or travel, or in amateur theatre, start by taking lessons or joining a club. Make your spare time more lively and stimulating and through this interest meet new people, widen your circle of friends and at the same time develop your own personal ability and creativity.
Sort out your ambitions. If at twenty you wanted to be a famous author there is no valid reason why now, about forty, you should not still strive for the same goals. But at forty it may be far too late to cling to ambitions that rely on youth or long periods of study and training. At forty it is too late to become a brain surgeon, fighter pilot or famous footballer — but then few make it at twenty-five either.
Whatever you decide and ultimately it is you alone who makes the decision, consider that you may also have a number of people dependent on you — wife, family, children and colleagues — and that your decision may have a serious effect on them. Let them have some say in your future plans, listen to their thoughts and comments.
And expect them to be critical. No matter how realistic you are in your judgement and conclusions, in nine out of ten instances you can bet others will view your life as excellent and see no reason for any change, however minor it is. Few will approve or understand your motives.
